Historic Renovation — Case Study

Denver Landmark Property

Location
Denver, Colorado
Category
Historic / Landmark Renovation
Scope
Whole-home renovation, custom millwork, systems
Duration
Full renovation

A designated landmark home was fully renovated inside while its historic character was preserved out — new structure and systems, custom built-in millwork, a restored stone fireplace, and warm period-appropriate finishes throughout.

Landmark homes come with an extra client: the historic district. Every exterior change has to be reviewed and approved, and the interior work has to meet modern code while respecting the home’s original craftsmanship. We handled the full renovation — drawings and approvals, structure, insulation and systems, and finish carpentry — to bring this home up to today’s standards without losing what makes it special.

Design & Approval

Working within landmark guidelines

We started from measured elevation drawings prepared for landmark review, so every change to the historic exterior was documented and approved before work began.

Structure & Systems

Rebuilt inside, preserved outside

Behind the historic walls we reinforced structure, reframed for the new plan, insulated with spray foam, and re-ran the systems — the modern performance a century-old home needs.

Craftsmanship

Custom built-in millwork

Floor-to-ceiling built-in bookshelves and cabinetry were built on site to suit the home’s proportions — the kind of finish carpentry that makes a renovation feel original.

Fireplace

A restored stone fireplace

The stone fireplace was rebuilt and fitted with a modern insert — a period focal point that now heats efficiently and anchors the main living space.

Primary Bath

A spa-like primary bath

The primary bath was rebuilt around a deep soaking tub with tile and custom vanity — a private retreat that fits the character of the home.

The Result

A landmark home, renewed

The finished home reads as timeless — beamed ceilings, hardwood floors, custom built-ins, and a formal dining room — all brought fully up to date behind its preserved facade.

Character carried outside

Outside, a stone fireplace and refreshed courtyard extend the home’s craftsmanship into a private outdoor space.
